Please call and urge the likely Conference Committee Members Dennis Cardoza and Joe Baca to provide an increase of at least $2 billion over the next 5 years for the new Conservation Stewardship Program and to ensure mandatory funding for the Value-Added Producer Grant and Rural Micro-Enterprise Assistance Program in the final bill.

Ask for the legislative aide that works on agriculture and talk to them about your support for adequate funding for the Conservation Stewardship Program and Rural Development Programs in the 2008 Farm Bill. If the aide is unavailable, leave a short message of support, along with your name and phone number, on the aide's voice mail or with the receptionist.

The message is simple:

"I am a constituent and am calling to urge Representative Cardoza/Baca to support a $2 billion increase in mandatory farm bill funding for the Conservation Stewardship Program in the final Farm Bill. With all the pressure to produce in response to the ethanol market, we need programs like the Conservation Stewardship Program more than ever to protect soil, water, air, and wildlife.""I am a constituent and am calling to urge Representative Cardoza/Baca to support a $2 billion increase in mandatory farm bill funding for the Conservation Stewardship Program in the final Farm Bill. With all the pressure to produce in response to the ethanol market, we need programs like the Conservation Stewardship Program more than ever to protect soil, water, air, and wildlife.

"I also urge the Congressman to support mandatory farm bill funding for key rural development programs that allow farmers and non-farmers in rural communities to pursue innovative projects that raise incomes and create jobs. During final farm bill negotiations, please ensure that:

  • The Value-Added Producer Grant programs is funded at $30 million in annual mandatory funding, the level provided by the House-passed Farm Bill
  • The Rural Entrepreneurs and Micro-Enterprise Program is funded at $10 million in annual mandatory funding, the level provided by the Senate-passed Farm Bill"
